As a Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) user I had long been facing the
problem of memory shortage on the device. The device is definitely a decent one
as such but had the peculiar segregation between Device Memory and USB Storage
being done. Which resulted in the fact that even though the device had a total
internal storage of 14 GB, only 2 GB of that is actually available of app
installation and related data.
Considering the computational abilities this is not much and soon I faced problems related to insufficient space. And I had to delete app data or un-install an existing app to make app for a new one.

There are 2 solutions I would like to share over here, one temporary and
the other one permanent.
Will share both of them over here for your help:
Click on 'Delete dumpstate/logcat'. You will notice some of the Device
Memory getting freed up by this process.
It can help you to install updates for existing apps but getting new
apps can still be a problem.
The following solution is a more permanent one.
This solution helps to partition the internal memory of the phone and
redistribute it as needed. For example I partitioned and allocated 8 GB of
memory to the Device Storage i.e. the apps related space. The solution is
captured in detail in the following video tutorial shared by techotv.com:
There are some nuances which I would want to state here:
- Switch Off the phone
- Press Volume - (Down), Power
On / Off and Selector Keys all together to get into the download mode.
After getting into this mode you may just follow the process as mentioned
in the video tutorial
- After the process is completed you will notice that the Device Memory is increased as required but the USB memory is not available. You will need to do a Factory Reset using the option available under Settings -> Backup and reset. Once this is done you will be able to get back the USB storage.
I had thoughts of changing the phone just because of this space related
issue. But S2 is still a decent phone with nice configurations. Having done
this I am again back to my good old, its more than 3 years now, Galaxy S2 now.
But as usual be careful; its your phone. Be careful of the model which
you are using and follow the steps as mentioned. You may end up doing
irreversible damage to your phone otherwise.
